About Contracopia

Contracopia is a one-guy show. My name is Patrick, the one guy of the one-guy show. I started contra dancing in Wisconsin in the early 1990's. Shorty after moving to Vermont in 1996 I got involved volunteering for the local contra dance, calling, building portable sprung dance floors, and selling CDs through Contracopia. My vision for Contracopia has changed several times since it was first launcehed in 1999, and I am sure Contracopia will continue to evolve. When I started in 1999, there was no web site like it, in fact, selling the idea to musicians was a task I wasn't prepared for. Over time, a few other web sites popped up, most didn't last long. As far as I know, Contracopia is the only online contra dance music store with music samples. You aren't buying a CD for its cover art, are you? I think you should be able to listen a bit before you buy. Currently, my focus is to make browsing music on Contracopia fun and easy, and to make managing the site easy for me. I do all the web design and what not myself.

Marketing Contracopia has always been a major challenge. I have tried a variety of strategies that yielded a variety of results. The best marketing is word of mouth (hint). If you enjoy browsing CDs and (or) buying, please tell your friends. Contracopia now has a FaceBook page, if you are into that sort of thing.

About CyberYankee
Contracopia still doesn't pay the bills, so I do a variety of things to earn money (carpentry, painting, roofing, proof read math textbooks, deliver sailboats, sell on eBay, and do some things no one else wants to do). My catch-all business name is CyberYankee.
